About Melahnie

In addition to being a certified counsellor, I am also a certified teacher with over 20 years of experience in education, including 7 years as a  school counsellor. I hold a Master of Education degree and a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology, both from UBC.

I live in Squamish, B.C., where the ocean meets the mountains and glacial rivers nourish the land. I am honoured to live and work on this land that is the traditional, ancestral and unceded homelands of the Skwxwu7mesh (Squamish Nation).

I’m a mother to two school-aged children who continue to teach me about the importance of being present, and having fun! I enjoy yoga, swimming, surfing, meditation, reading, travel, playing with my children and taking walks with our dog, Foxy.

My passion is working with parents/guardians to help them develop tools to self regulate, establish healthy boundaries and connect with their children so that their family can thrive together as a team. I have considerable experience working with parents who have children and family members with neurodiversity.

Aim

Why did I choose this path? For me, it is an honour to work as a counsellor and coach to experience authentic connection with clients and support them in breaking free from limiting beliefs, and guide them in making their dreams happen.
I am fascinated by the human capacity to develop psychological resilience and create habits of health and wellness.

It brings me incredible joy to guide others in cultivating their own abilities to achieve their life goals, to reduce suffering; cultivate joy,  shift from scarcity mindsets to abundance perspectives and prosperity; and connect with their soul purpose.

I believe that through awakened awareness we can all work towards embodied liberation.

Approach

My work is grounded in respect, hope, and trust. I use an eclectic approach integrating a range of techniques that best honour an individual’s needs.

I am a trauma-informed practitioner and draw from person-centered and mindfulness-based practices, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), and Somatic Therapy.

Using evidence-based counselling practices, intuition, and authentic connection, we co-create a safe space to explore emotions, strengthen self compassion, and awaken awareness. I support my clients in cultivating their own psychological resilience, soul connection and inner resources to thrive.
